In February, the premiere of the new production by Laia RiCa, Antonio Cerezo and their team is on the programme of Schaubude Berlin. In their multi-award-winning production “Coffee with Sugar?”, the group from El Salvador, Mexico, Cuba, Spain and Germany already dealt with colonial continuities and biographical material. They now pick up where they left off with the new material performance “Five Exhibits” and enter the complex web of themes surrounding museums, heritage, appropriation, restitution, knowledge and belief.

The evening takes its starting point in Alexander von Humboldt and his journeys to Latin America. The two performers explore how Humboldt’s colonial overwriting still resonates in them and in the collective subconscious of their families. In sculptures, plants (potatoes), stones (plaster) and their own biographies, they search for decolonial counter-histories.
An evening with Alex von Humboldt – super scientist, eponym of the Humboldt Forum, second discoverer of America! Even in the role of both the discovered and the discoverers, three Latinx performers break the Humboldtian gaze. In sculptures, plants, stones and their own biographies, they search for decolonial counter-histories: From two products – potatoes and plaster – they create a dazzling web of unsuspected images and dense narratives.
They are accompanied by the musician Yahima Piedra Córdova, who intervenes in the stage action with her live sound world, and the video artist Daniela del Pomar, who gives the audience documentary insights into the exhibits and leads them microscopically into the hidden inner worlds of the potato plant and plaster.
In their multi-award-winning production “Coffee with Sugar?”, which premiered at the Schaubude Berlin in 2021, the group from El Salvador, Mexico, Cuba, Spain and Germany already dealt with colonial continuities and biographical material. This is where they pick up with the new material performance “Five Exhibits”, which continues to develop on a tour of Berlin, Mexico City, Erlangen and Stuttgart.
