With URBAN ENCOUNTERS – URBANE BEGEGNUNGEN, CSR.ART Contemporary Show Room presents a multimedia group exhibition with photographs by 30 artists, an installative video work in the setting of furniture from the Café Casino of documenta 8 (1987) and an object-accompanying sound composition by Dr. Lutz Fahrenkrog-Petersen. Visitors to the exhibition will witness how Andy Warhol meets companions, French provocateurs and up-and-coming contemporary photo artists. URBAN ENCOUNTERS opens on 22 June 2023 with a vernissage at 6 pm at CSR.ART, Friedrichstraße 69, Berlin-Mitte.

The photographs and video installations on display bear witness to the artists’ fascination with the city as a stage for human drama and at the same time reflect the constant transformation of the urban environment.

At the same time, it exposes our voyeuristic gaze. Our view on the space that surrounds us. And on the people who move within it as if in a habitat in familiar ways. Or consciously present themselves to the gaze of others in order to escape the feeling of being trapped in conventions.

URBAN ENCOUNTERS – URBANE BEGEGNUNGEN focuses on the camera as a central medium of artistic practice. By capturing fleeting encounters, capturing intimate moments and highlighting the multiple dimensions of urban encounters, it functions as an eyewitness and creative medium that reveals the tension between anonymity and individual identity in the urban landscape.
