In May, the Staatsballett Berlin takes a look at the future and the past of dance. In the framework of the Next Generation format, ten dancers present their view on choreography with their own creations. In the education project Wishful Performance, you can experience how school children, who are engaging with dance for the first time, translate their thoughts into movement. And the discussion series Forum explores how memory is dealt with in this art form, which is so ephemeral.

Next Generation
(CHOREOGRAPHIES FROM THE ENSEMBLE)
Ten dancers of the ensemble present their own choreographies in the Tischlerei of the Deutsche Oper Berlin as part of the evening Next Generation. Works by Alexander Abdukarimov & Pauline Voisard, Gustavo Chalub, Aurora Dickie, Shaked Heller, Theo Just, Vivian Assal Koohnavard, Ross Martinson, Clotilde Tran, Dominik White Slavkovský will be shown. The lineup includes newcomers as well as choreographers who already have some experience.
Not only the choreography is developed, but also the music selection, lighting and costume design, stage design, as well as projections and props used on stage. From solos to pas de deux to a group piece for 8 dancers, on pointe or barefoot, between a wealth of props and minimalism, a wide range unfolds.
Wishful Performance
(OUR EDUCATION PROGRAMME «TANZ IST KLASSE!» AT THE TISCHLEREI)
Tanz ist KLASSE! e.V., the education program of the Staatsballett Berlin, will present the production Wishful Performance at the Tischlerei of the Deutsche Oper Berlin in May on three dates. The programme features dance theater pieces for children – by children who have had little or no prior exposure to dance and have worked with dance educators for a year. A dance evening dedicated to the theme of »Desire and Reality» awaits audiences aged 5 and above, exploring various facets of the topic.

(THIRD PART OF OUR DISCUSSION SERIES ON «MEMORY»)
In the first two events of the discussion series Forum, moderator Dr. Mariama Dagne and the panelists explored the concepts of «beauty» and «violence». In the third discussion, the focus will shift to «memory» and its integration with the performing art of dance. These three concepts represent fundamental facets of human existence. Through them, not only cultural identity is articulated, but also the norms of societal forms of (co-)existence.
Forum is organized in cooperation with the Collaborative Research Center 1512 «Interventional Arts» of the Freie Universität Berlin under the conception and leadership of Dr. Mariama Diagne

(ARTISTS AND GUESTS OF THE STAATSBALLETT IN CONVERSATION)
In the atmospheric setting of the Apollosaal at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden, the Staatsballett Berlin invites audiences to another Sunday morning of conversation. Moderated by Staatsballett Berlin staff members, ensemble members, choreographers, costume designers, and other participants will share insights into their work and the secrets of their art in a relaxed atmosphere.
