Natascha von Hirschhausen: Change the Rules of Fashion. Exhibition & Panel Diskussion (on 04.07.) in the framework of Berlin Fashion Week – CSR.ART | 02.07.-05.07.2024

Editors’ Choice

Berlin fashion designer Natascha von Hirschhausen and CSR.ART are presenting an exclusive exhibition collaboration on the topic of fashion and sustainability as part of Berlin Fashion Week 2024. The designer will be showing works on selected pieces from her new collection (Edition 4). Natascha von Hirschhausen’s conceptual work focuses in particular on innovative zero-waste design, in which the waste produced during the manufacturing process of a garment is reduced to a minimum – or no longer produced at all. The exhibition will be on display during Berlin Fashion Week from Tuesday, 2 July to Friday, 5 July 2024 in the CSR.ART Contemporary Show Room in Berlin’s Friedrichstraße. The panel discussion will take place on Thursday, 4 July 2024 at 6 pm at CSR.ART. Parallel to this, CSR.ART is currently showing the exhibition “Brüne/Heisig DIALOGUE – Part I” with works by the artists Gudrun Brüne and Bernhard Heisig.

Natascha von Hirschhausen is known for her uncompromising approach to sustainable design. With her new collection, she is once again setting new standards in zero-waste fashion. In collaboration with CSR.ART Berlin, she shows that fashion can be strong and innovative in design even without environmental impact.

Every year, resources for 20-25 billion items of clothing are destroyed in the cutting process alone. Thanks to Natascha von Hirschhausen’s innovative zero-waste design, this waste of resources is avoided and textile waste is significantly reduced. The designer produces the entire collection with less than 1% waste compared to conventional cutting, which results in around 20% material waste.

With a maximum resource efficiency of over 99% and a waste reduction of less than 1%, Natascha von Hirschhausen’s designs for the entire collection are based on the zero-waste principle. In addition to draping and knitting garments, Natascha has designed innovative zero-waste patterns that incorporate curves to create an optimal fit on the body. The pattern pieces interlock, significantly minimising waste and textile remnants compared to the industry standard. Natascha von Hirschhausen even has a design idea for the offcuts, which, depending on the model, only comprise tiny scraps of fabric or a few threads: she uses them to make an earring that completes the look together with the outfit. The fascinating result: zero waste. Natascha received the German Federal Ecodesign Award 2017 in the Product category for her holistically sustainable concept and in particular for the zero-waste design innovation.

A special highlight of the exhibition will be the panel discussion entitled “Change the Rules of Fashion”, which will take place on Thursday evening, 4 July from 6 to 8 pm. This discussion will look at the current challenges and opportunities facing the fashion industry and shed light on the path to more sustainable fashion. Designer Natascha von Hirschhausen will be joining industry pioneers Ines Rust (DAWN denim) and Mathilde Charpail (SANE Standard) for an hour-long discussion.

All fashion enthusiasts, experts and media representatives are invited to take part in this event and be inspired by forward-looking fashion.
