Sara Ouhaddou (born 1986 in France, lives and works in Morocco and France) explores the relationships between artisans and artists in her artistic practice. In her solo exhibition Display at ifa-Galerie Berlin, she explores how art and craftsmanship intertwine and blur the boundaries of classic “commissioning”. In doing so, she also addresses the effects of tourism on arts and crafts and the object as a commodity.
From many years of experience working with artisans in the medina of Marrakech, she defines three types of collaboration: the artist commissions a piece; the artwork is an object based on joint discussions; artisans commission an exhibit from the artist.
Unique Moroccan crafts such as ceramics, embroidery, glass design and jewellery were included in their diversity, commissioned or jointly produced.
The exhibition was created in cooperation with MACAAL Marrakech and ifa-Galerie Berlin and will open on the occasion of Berlin Art Week 2024.
