As part of the international presentation of his book “Cosmosonoridades: cante-gitano y canción-gyu. Epistemologías del sentir”, Iván Periáñez Bolaño, doctor and professor of anthropology at the University of Seville, will engage in a dialog with the art historian and director Miguel Ángel Vargas about the emancipatory possibilities of the concept of ‘aesthesis romaní’ on September 3, 2024 at 7:00 pm at the Kai Dikhas Foundation.

Bolaño and Vargas are two Spanish Roma-Gitanos creators and thinkers who have been strongly influenced by the critical debates on flamenco and contemporary Romani creation. Concepts such as representation, recognition and objectification are questioned in an open dialog with a clear objective: to speak from other categories and positions, with Periáñez’s book “Cosmosonoridades”: cante-gitano y canción-gyu. Epistemologías del sentir and his reflections on the current state of so-called contemporary Roma art as a point of reference and basis for the discussion.
Starting from the peripheral experiences in the neighborhoods and villages of Seville, they will trace the line of continuities that leads us from the presence of Spanish Roma artists in Berlin in the 19th century to (…) their self-representation in full consciousness in their places of self-representation (…) in the 21st century of continuing inequality.

The discussion is organized by the Kai Dikhas Foundation in collaboration with the European Roma Institute for Art and Culture (ERIAC). The discussion will be held in Spanish and English.
