Donald Trump’s inauguration shows once again that anti-democratic and anti-liberal forces are on the rise all over the world. On 23 February, the day of the Bundestag elections, there is also a lot at stake in Germany: the result will be a challenge for all those in Germany who are committed to a progressive, inclusive and pluralistic democracy. The Haus der Kulturen der Welt (HKW) invites you to a Public Screaming on 23 February to follow the first projections, results and post-election statements together. These will be commented on live in front of an audience, there will be elephant rounds, live music by Berlin hip-hop band The Swag and plenty of collective emotions.

It is foreseeable that there will be many reasons for anger, bewilderment and sadness on election night. That is why it is important to come together and tremble, shout, cry, discuss, laugh, hope, drink and dance – and to show that there is a fight for a pluralistic democracy: There is a fight for a pluralistic democracy, and it will not be abandoned – neither before nor after the election.
The HKW calls on everyone to become active and fight for a pluralistic democracy! Every voice, every discussion and every contribution counts in order to send a clear signal against marginalisation, right-wing violence and anti-democratic tendencies.
Other public screamings have been organised at the following venues so far:
FFT Düsseldorf, Kammerspiele München / Habibi Kiosk, Kampnagel Hamburg, KoalaKollektiv Frankfurt am Main, Schauspiel Dortmund, PACT Zollverein Essen, Studio Literatur and Theater Tübingen in cooperation with Club Voltaire, Theater Konstanz.
Public Screaming takes place as part of heimaten and is an initiative of the Haus der Kulturen der Welt (HKW), Berlin.
With Mohamed Amjahid, Miriam Camara, Max Czollek, Ibou Diop, Paula Fürstenberg, Rahel Jaeggi, Massimo Perinelli, Patrice Poutrus, Arne Semsrott, The Swag and Hengameh Yaghoobifarah and others.
