The Deutsche Kinemathek – Museum for Film and Television is one of Europe’s leading institutions dedicated to preserving and presenting the audiovisual heritage. At its new interim location at the E-Werk in Berlin-Mitte, the Kinemathek invites visitors to an opening weekend from January 23 to 25, 2026, with free admission and a full program. Until the opening of a new Filmhaus, this venue will offer a wide range of encounters with film and television.

At the E-Werk, the Deutsche Kinemathek presents experimental exhibitions, curated film series, productions from the television archive, and the festival Film Restored. The Kinemathek reaches a broad audience through a varied education and events program—as well as with the Retrospective and the Berlinale Classics, which it presents as part of the Berlin International Film Festival. Archives and a specialist library make the Kinemathek an important place for scholarship and research.
Installation Screentime
With “Screentime,” the Kinemathek opens its new location at the E-Werk and, for the first time, transforms the historic hall into a large-scale staged media space. The multimedia installation presents highlights from 130 years of film and television history and invites visitors to rediscover moving images as part of our culture and perception.

Together with the specialist archives, iconic scenes, photographic documents, objects, and archival material from its own holdings were selected and combined into an open experiential space. Floating gauze surfaces, video installations, and projections unfold diverse perspectives on the audiovisual heritage—from the creative work behind the scenes to the impact of popular formats.
The accompanying program of screenings, workshops, and talks, a changing film program in the studio cinema, as well as participatory educational formats make the Kinemathek at the E-Werk a lively place of media experience.
