The Open Museum: Hamburger Bahnhof Establishes Advisory Board and Expands Inclusive Public Program. At the start of its 30th anniversary year, the Hamburger Bahnhof – National Gallery of Contemporary Art is further opening itself up to the public: an advisory board of committed individuals from Berlin and the surrounding area will support the museum’s work. In March 2026, an expanded inclusive public program will also launch, featuring a silent hour every first Wednesday of the month.

The Hamburger Bahnhof – National Gallery of Contemporary Art is committed to an open, participatory form of museum work.

To mark its 30th anniversary, the Hamburger Bahnhof is establishing a Community Advisory Board, which is made up of committed individuals, local initiatives and people from the museum’s neighborhood.

The advisory board of the Hamburger Bahnhof consists of 10 people and reflects the diverse urban communities in its surroundings. For in the museum, art and urban society meet.

“Connecting with people is at the heart of everything we do. The advisory board contributes important expertise that will help us shape the future of Hamburger Bahnhof and its surrounding area.”

– Mathilda Legemah, Strategy Development, Hamburger Bahnhof – National Gallery of Contemporary Art

Together with the advisory board, the Hamburger Bahnhof team develops new perspectives and initiatives for the museum’s work. During the first year of the board’s establishment, its members serve a one-year term, working closely with museum staff to identify problems, explore opportunities, and recommend future measures.

They share visions regarding exhibitions, programs, education & outreach, and questions of accessibility and opening up the house.

A second aspect of the museum’s reopening for its 30th anniversary is an expanded inclusive program. Starting March 4th, the new “Quiet Hour” will offer a focused, stress-free art experience at Hamburger Bahnhof every first Wednesday of the month from 4 to 5 pm.

Selected exhibitions can be experienced with a limited number of visitors, without large groups, at deliberately quiet times.

The offer is aimed at people with disabilities or neurodivergent individuals, as well as all visitors with sensory needs who prefer a quieter museum visit – and also at their families, friends and companions.
