Three prizes were awarded at the Zeughausmesse 2024 on 7. November, including two new awards. All prizes are intended to incentivise the expansion and further development of the rich arts and crafts heritage.

Artists go through a creative process when designing and producing their work, which gives their work a unique character and special radiance. The objects enrich the everyday lives of the users. The language of form, excellent workmanship and the use of appropriate materials ensure this.
Klingenstein-Zuschke Foundation’s Applied Arts Prize
The Klingenstein-Zuschke Foundation’s Applied Arts Prize of 5,000 euros was awarded for the first time. This prize honours outstanding achievements in the field of craftsmanship and art.
The prize went to the wood artist Martin Wilmes. The item impresses with its functionality and practicality. At the same time, it is a pleasure to handle and use the excellently crafted pieces of furniture. The aesthetics are modern and at the same time orientated towards tradition. The artist produces his objects with perfect craftsmanship.
Sponsorship Award from R. Götze GmbH & Co. KG
Also new is the sponsorship award from R. Götze GmbH & Co. KG in the amount of 750 euros. This prize is aimed at up-and-coming artists who take an innovative approach. Young craftspeople integrate impulses from various artistic disciplines into their works. The prize honours young creatives who demonstrate quality craftsmanship and outstanding artistic design.
Christina Quandt, a student at Wismar University of Applied Sciences, received the prize. She artistically scrutinises images of women from mythology. Starting with the question ‘Is this art?’, she creates pieces of jewellery with highly sophisticated craftsmanship. She combines some of her works with texts by Rainer Maria Rilke, which she lasers onto mother-of-pearl.
Nature Art Prize by the Lions Club Berlin-Preußen von Humboldt
For the second time, the Lions Club Berlin-Preußen von Humboldt is awarding the Nature Art Prize for environmentally friendly aesthetics in the amount of 1,500 euros.
This prize emphasises sustainability based on economy, ecology and social competence. The award-winning artists incorporate these aspects into their work, with the ecological aspect taking centre stage. Environmentally friendly materials and ecologically sourced raw materials are crucial here.
The prize was awarded to wood artist Felix Votteler. He uses an experimental approach to produce his hand-turned objects to perfection. He deliberately emphasises imperfections and knots. He uses the drying process to create a special design. He only works with trees that have had to be felled for health or structural reasons.
Felix Votteler is at the Zeughausmesse as a Fresh Talent. The fair’s sponsorship programme invites young craftspeople and designers from all disciplines who have been working professionally for a maximum of five years and have not previously taken part in the Zeughausmesse to apply for a heavily sponsored stand.
An expert jury consisting of museum directors, journalists, professors and artists selects the award winners from all exhibitors on the first day of the Armoury Fair each year. For many artists, the awards are an important step in their artistic and economic development.
Around 80 designers, craftspeople and artists will present and sell their latest ideas and products at the Zeughausmesse from 7-10 November 2024 at Kühlhaus Berlin. The Zeughausmesse is the highlight for lovers of the applied arts in Berlin.
The Zeughausmesse is organised by the Berufsverband Angewandte Kunst Berlin-Brandenburg. Cooperation partners are Art Aurea, Deutsches Technikmuseum, Götze Gold GmbH, Goodlife Wohndesign, Handwerk und Design, Home, Humboldt Kaffee Manufaktur, Klingenstein-Zuschke Stiftung and the Lions Club Berlin-Preußen von Humboldt.
