In times like these, uncertainty is also great on the part of the many people involved in art and culture: theatres are closed, concerts cancelled, exhibitions and events cancelled. As a result, the income of tens of thousands of people breaks away. KunstNothilfe, an initiative of Elinor, a platform for democratic group accounts and solidarity-based security, wants to help and collects donations for this purpose, which quickly and unbureaucratically benefit those affected. Members of the board of trustees include cabaret artist Christoph Sieber and actor Götz Otto.

KunstNothilfe collects money for artists in need in all categories and gives 1,000 euros each as a gift, which does not have to be taxed. The Berlin gallery Kornfeld is currently launching a hand-signed edition by Hubertus Hamm for 250,- Euro. Further gallery artists will follow. The costs, including the costs for the prints and the shipping of the edition, will be borne by the gallery together with the artist – the proceeds from the sale of the edition will therefore benefit the Artists’ Aid Fund without deductions.

The costs for the production are borne by the artist, packaging and shipping within the EU will be covered by Galerie Kornfeld”.

“When I wondered what the Corona virus might be heading for us, I tried to find a way to photographically translate this omnipresent, invisible threat in the English Garden in Munich. If we succeed in helping other artists with these images, the circle closes,” comments photographer Hubertus Hamm on the works, which can be seen for the first time in the exhibition at 68 projects, the project space of the Kornfeld Gallery. Works by other artists supporting KunstNothilfe will follow.
About Hubertus Hamm
Trained as a photographer, Hubertus Hamm (* 1950, Werdohl) leaves the well-trodden paths of classical photography and often even abandons the medium in which he was trained. As a logical extension of the principle of “photography”, which the artist calls “Dimensioning Photography”, the works of the Munich-based artist invite the viewer to engage in a dialogue with questions concerning object, subject, time and space. The critical examination of the format of the photographic portrait is a central subject in the work of Hubertus Hamm. Works by Hubertus Hamm have been shown at the Villa Stuck in Munich, the Deichtorhallen, Hamburg, the Neue Sammlung of the Pinakothek der Moderne, Munich and the Yuan Art Museum in Beijing, among others. Temporary installations of his works have been shown at the National Theater in Munich and recently at the Rietberg Museum in Zurich.

More can be achieved together – this experience unites us. However, time and again a suitable form was lacking for the quick and democratic management of common money. That’s why we joined forces with our different perspectives: software development, activism, sustainable banking, founding companies and communities, controlling, family work and more. In 2018 we started elinor as a research project and gained first experiences. What could a digital infrastructure for more reciprocity look like? In which areas is there a real need? The first two focal points have emerged from this: Protection and group accounts. The KunstNothilfe supports artists and cultural workers unbureaucratically with an emergency aid of one-time 1.000,- EUR. A prerequisite for the granting of the aid is professionalism, proven by membership of the KSK.
