The graphic design scene in Germany, Austria and Switzerland participated actively in the “100 Best Posters” competition in 2021: around 2,000 posters from 540 entrants were submitted to the jury for selection. The 100 outstanding designs that were selected as winners will be on display at the Berlin Kulturforum from 24 June 2022. The exhibition marks the start of the Posters 2022 tour. Admission is free of charge.

Although cultural life continued to suffer from the pandemic in 2021, museums and theatres were open most of the time to enrich everyday life with exhibitions and performances. The accompanying advertising posters make up the largest part of the submissions to the “100 Best Posters” competition and offer a red-hot cross-section of the best poster work in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. In the Kulturplakat, the scope for creative image-making is explored in exciting and fresh graphic, typographic and photographic design approaches.
In addition to the creative perspectives, the winning posters also provide insight into historical and contemporary topics that moved the cultural world in 2021: The groundbreaking silent films “The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari” and “Nosferatu” celebrated their 100th anniversary, while 50 years of voting rights for women gave reason to visualise questions about the current state of equality. Another very topical poster series is a graphic analysis of the cryptocurrencies BTC, ETH and DOT in response to the new hype surrounding art in the digital space.
The “100 Best Posters Germany Austria Switzerland” competition, which has now existed in its current format for 20 years, is evaluated by an annually changing jury. In 2021, the 100 winning designs were selected from a total of 2,008 posters submitted, of which 888 were individual posters and 325 were series. The jury consisted of Christian Hoffelner (A-Vienna), Radovan Jenko (SI-Ljubljana), Larissa Kasper (KasperFlorio, CH-St. Gallen), Denis Olgac (Sucuk und Bratwurst, D-Berlin) and Susanne Stahl (Stahl R, D-Berlin).
