Under the musical direction of Marc Albrecht there will be the house debut of the outstanding countertenor Aryeh Nussbaum Cohen, who will perform together with baritone Mark Stone and soprano Georgia Jarman. The latter has already made a name for herself several times with roles in Benjamin’s works. The in-house ensemble also features Irene Roberts and Chance Jonas-O’Toole.
In her work, author Martin Crimp, composer and director combine a bloody love triangle from the French High Middle Ages with a reflection on the power of art, on the ability to depict reality in images or to recreate worlds. The premiere at the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence 2012 was a sensation: text and composition intertwine with rare perfection, a gripping story and a precise and poetic language complement each other with highly theatrical music that is thoroughly contemporary , but also able to captivate a wider audience in its sonic and sensual richness. Added to this is Katie Mitchell’s psychologically precise production. Now this work can be experienced for the first time on a Berlin opera stage.
