Esther Schipper is a Berlin-based gallery that opened a location in Seoul in 2022. Now the gallery is opening another location in Seoul.

In 2022, Esther Schipper, Seoul, opened a space in Itaewon to expand the gallery’s partnership and collaboration with the Korean art community. The new space at 24 Hannam-daero, Yongsa-gu is a five-storey building with a four-storey gallery in the thriving Hannam neighbourhood. Sunil Kim will continue to manage the gallery and has been appointed Directing Partner.
The gallery offered artists a platform for the presentation of projects and exhibitions. Esther Schipper, Seoul, will organise international solo exhibitions of the gallery’s artists as well as curated group exhibitions and continue to support institutional projects in Korea.
This spring, Esther Schipper, Seoul, announced the opening of Pierre Huyghe’s solo exhibition at the Leeum Museum of Art in February 2025, where gallery artists Philippe Parreno and Anicka Yi exhibited in 2023 and 2024 respectively. Ugo Rondinone, Liam Gillick and Ryan Gander have organised major institutional exhibitions in Korea in recent years. Esther Schipper, Seoul, has exhibited Rosa Barba, Angela Bulloch, Tomasz Kręcicki, Thomias Radin and Anri Sala at her first location and organised group exhibitions with renowned Korean artists, House on Fire and Dui Jip Ki.
Esther Schipper, Seoul aims to introduce the Korean public to artists from around the world by offering an exhibition specifically aimed at the Seoul public and the Seoul context, as well as an accompanying public lecture programme given by curators from the national museums. The promotion of emerging artists continues to be an important part of the gallery’s mission. In 2024, Hyunsun Jeon will join the gallery and will be represented by Esther Schipper in collaboration with Gallery2.
The building, designed by New York architects StudioMDA, has three floors for exhibitions and a showroom on the fourth floor. Esther Schipper, Seoul will officially open its doors in March 2025.
