The Hamburger Bahnhof – National Gallery for Contemporary Art is expanding its educational offering for museum visitors. As a key educational partner, the Volkswagen Group is supporting the further development of all educational programmes in the open studios for various target groups for a further two years. In doing so, the educational partner is strengthening a central hub for art education in Berlin and promoting cross-generational creative learning. The new study programme invites all museum visitors to actively participate, free of charge, in art activities inspired by original contemporary artworks. Furthermore, the open studio format has been developed specifically for schools and offers pupils access to open spaces for experimentation, exploration and creative work even outside regular opening hours. A new open studio format for families enables children and adults to experiment and be creative together. This gives families additional opportunities to discover art projects and actively participate in them during their visit to the museum.

Till Fellrath, Director of the Hamburger Bahnhof – National Gallery of Contemporary Art: “Education and outreach play a central role in all of the Hamburger Bahnhof’s programmes. Together, we are actively breaking down barriers, opening up the museum and expressly inviting a wide audience to discover art and culture for themselves. The successful partnership with the Volkswagen Group has been in place since 2012 and will now continue for a further two years – with a reliable partner at our side.”

“Our long-standing, trusting partnership with the Volkswagen Group enables us to expand the educational and outreach programmes at the Hamburger Bahnhof in a sustainable way. We can deepen our programmes for schools, develop new formats and create a greater variety of access points. Education is central to the Hamburger Bahnhof; it is the key to our commitment to the urban community and to further opening up the museum,” Claudia Ehgartner, Head of Education and Outreach at the Hamburger Bahnhof – Nationalgalerie der Gegenwart.

Benita von Maltzahn, Head of Society and Culture, Volkswagen Group: “As ‘Lead Partner of Education’, it is important to us to provide cross-cutting support for the museum’s entire educational and outreach work. ‘Volkswagen Group Art4All’ refers to free programmes for a wide variety of target groups. In doing so, we are continuing our successful partnership with the Hamburger Bahnhof, which began back in 2012. Together, our aim is to make art and culture accessible to as many people as possible.”

In 2026 and 2027, a Volkswagen Group Fellow will once again be part of the museum team at the Hamburger Bahnhof – Nationalgalerie der Gegenwart. This programme supports both emerging talent in the arts and culture sector and cultural institutions.

As Lead Partner of Education, the Volkswagen Group will be supporting the Hamburger Bahnhof – Nationalgalerie der Gegenwart across the board in all its educational and outreach activities. Through “Volkswagen Group Art4All”, programmes for all visitors and for various target groups, such as families and schools, will be available free of charge. In addition, the company is also sponsoring the annual Open House open days from 12 to 14 June as a programme partner.
