Turning the Point. Wie man ein urbanes Gefüge zum Tanzen bringt, is a project in three sequences by Katharina Schlieben, Pia Lanzinger and Sven Sappelt. Turning the Point tests artistic and civic formats of exchange and cultural practice around Moritzplatz in Berlin-Kreuzberg. The first sequence, Checkpoint Moritz, combines an archival panorama with new encounters. This includes artistic works that have dealt with Moritzplatz in recent decades, as well as documentary evidence from the 19th and 20th centuries.
On Friday, 1 November at 7 pm, Georg Spehr will lead a film evening presenting Moritzplatz as a backdrop for historical documentaries and feature films.
On Wednesday 6 November at 7 pm, Martin Düspohl, former director of the Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg Museum, will shed light on the history of the square over the last 200 years from a social and cultural history perspective.
On Wednesday, 20 November, the focus will be on the history of the arcades around the square. A public rehearsal of the Chor der Statistik with Bernadette La Hengst at 6 pm and in-depth research by Stella Flatten and Christoph Kreutzmüller at 8 pm on the sites of Jewish cultural life around Moritzplatz in the 1920s, such as Café Nagler, the Sevilla dance palace and the Herrnfeld brothers’ theatre.
Pia Lanzinger and the KreisverChor invite you to two ‘vocal tours’ of Moritzplatz on 13 and 17 November from 15:00 to 19:00.
Admission to the exhibition (Tue-Sun 15.00-19.00) and to the evening events is free. Registration and a small fee are required to take part in the guided tours. Tickets are available on site or online at.
