On March 27th, 2022, the Camaro Stiftung presents “Derek Jarman – My Garden”, a musical and literary performance with the Berlin Oboe Quartet and recitations by Frank Weiß. With the help of music, sound improvisation and texts, the artistic garden that the director, painter and homosexual liberation activist created after his HIV infection was diagnosed in 1986 is created in the audience’s imagination.

The Camaro Stiftung invites you to the musical-literary performance “Derek Jarman – my garden” on 27.03.2022 at 5:30 pm at the Camaro Haus. Texts quoted by Frank Weiß from Derek Jarman’s diaries will be embedded in music by Schumann and Schubert by the Berlin Oboe Quartet.
Derek Jarman (1942-1994) was a British film director, painter and icon of homosexual liberation. In Dungeness/Kent on England’s south coast, he created a legendary garden in 1989 and 1990: an idyll in a landscape dominated by a nearby nuclear power station, which was Jarman’s refuge, utopia and cure for hostility and illness. He was one of the first to come out as HIV-positive.
Music, sound improvisation and text create the garden before the eyes of the audience. Admission begins at 4:15 pm so that visitors also have the opportunity to see the exhibition “Alexander Camaro on the 120th Birthday”.
Duration: 75 minutes
Text: Ulrich Bildstein
Music arrangements: Simon Strasser
Performers: Bärbel Bühler, oboe / Raguel Ott, cor anglais / Simon Strasser, bass oboe / Jochen Schneider, bassoon / Frank Weiß, narrator
