POSITIONS Berlin Art Fair #9 | 15.09.-18.09.2022

From 15 to 18 September 2022, the ninth edition of the POSITIONS Berlin Art Fair will once again welcome the creative scene and the art market to the capital. This year, the fair presents 88 galleries from 20 countries and numerous newcomers, including IDOLON GALLERY (Taipei, Taiwan), Anca Poterasu Gallery and Ivan Gallery (Bucharest, Romania), Galerie Baudelaire (Antwerp, Belgium), SCHWARZ CONTEMPORARY (Berlin), Shangup Gallery (Seoul, South Korea) and GALLERY KOGURE (Tokyo, Japan). If you want to discover international galleries and artists:inside in a concentrated way and stroll through the metre-high and light-flooded hangars of the listed Tempelhof Airport in a relaxed atmosphere, this is the place to be.

Works by well-known greats such as Eduard Bargheer and Karl Schmidt-Rottluff (Thole Rotermund Kunsthandel), Auguste Rodin, Georg Grosz and Paul McCarthy (Akim Monet Fine Arts), Max Liebermann and Lotte Laserstein (Dr. Nöth Kunsthandel + Galerie) as well as Vera Molnar (DAM Projects) will be shown there alongside up-and-coming young artists: inside, including the glazed ceramic objects by Dominika Bednarsky and paintings by Marlon Hesse (Galerie Anita Beckers & Galerie Kornfeld), textile works by the young Romanian artist Adriana Preda (Ivan Gallery), works by the Latvian up-and-coming artist Janis Sneiders (MAKSLA XO) or the experimental direct exposures on analogue photographic paper by Marta Djourina (FeldbuschWiesnerRudolph).

Also on display are feminist photographs by Polish avant-garde icon Natalia LL (lokal_30), a new series of works by Mark Francis (Bernhard Knaus Fine Art), paintings by Ivorian artist Yannick Ackah (Melbye-Konan Gallery), sculptures and sculptural wall works by Geerten Verheus (Georg Nothelfer Gallery), compositions by Bauhaus artist Petra Petitpierre (ZELLERMAYER Gallery), works on paper by American performance artist Karen Finley (GOLESTANI) and sculptures by sculptor Maja Babič Košir (RAVNIKAR GALLERY SPACE) at the POSITIONS Berlin Art Fair.

The exhibitions in the exhibition booths are complemented by a varied supporting programme including several talks and award ceremonies. Particularly noteworthy is the cooperation with the New Jersey-based Boris Lurie Art Foundation (BLAF), which is dedicated to the life, work and aspirations of the artist and Holocaust survivor Boris Lurie as well as the spirit of protest of the NO!art movement of the 1960s.

In addition, there will once again be the young artists’ section Academy POSITIONS by Berlin Hyp, which will present 27 graduates and offer guests the opportunity to discover and promote the artists at the transition point of their artistic independence. Visitors can also look forward to a special presentation on the topic of crypto art and collecting NFTs.

The show Selected POSITIONS will help prospective collectors enter the art market. With its presentation of the artist Galli in cooperation with the Berlin gallery Nothelfer, Artima draws attention to an artist who is worth rediscovering. And in the Fashion Positions section, selected Berlin fashion designers working at the interface between art and fashion stage the aesthetic signature of their labels in the context of and in exchange with art.
