To mark its 30th anniversary, the Hamburger Bahnhof is announcing a special highlight: In March 2026, the museum is hosting the festive gala ‘A Night in Berlin’ – an evening that not only celebrates, but also shapes. The focus will be on three new international awards, which will be presented for the first time at this ground-breaking event.

The museum’s historic hall becomes the stage for an unforgettable night: performances, film narratives and encounters with artists, cultural actors, philanthropists and personalities from film, fashion and music merge into an atmospheric event between memory and vision.
But ‘A Night in Berlin’ is more than just a gala. It is a statement for the future of art: as a fundraising initiative, the event aims to promote forward-looking programmes in the areas of education, inclusion, accessibility and social participation. With a clear commitment to social relevance and an international focus, Hamburger Bahnhof is facing up to its responsibility as the National Gallery of the Present.
Three new awards celebrate innovation and commitment:
- Lifetime Achievement Award
For artists whose work has had a profound impact on contemporary culture. - Global Arts Patronage Award
For personalities who have strengthened artistic networks across borders through their philanthropic commitment. - Changemaker Award
For institutions or foundations that have transformed the language and scope of contemporary art.
The gala is being organised by the directors Sam Bardaouil and Till Fellrath together with the Advisory Committee of Hamburger Bahnhof International Companions e.V., represented by Monique Burger and Christine Wuerfel-Stauss – in exchange with artists such as Monica Bonvicini, Mark Bradford and Elmgreen & Dragset, whose work is closely associated with the museum.
“This gala is our commitment to the future. Art connects, inspires and opens up spaces of shared imagination.” – Sam Bardaouil & Till Fellrath
With ‘A Night in Berlin’, the Hamburger Bahnhof is opening a new chapter – as a place that mediates between Berlin and the world, between the present and the future, between art and society.
