For the location of Tegel Airport, which RÄUME have chosen for their exhibition, it is precisely this moment that is interesting. The place is currently experiencing the dissolution of its purpose. This is the moment when the positive uncertainty of the future combines with the longing for the past. Tegel at this moment is Departure – departure, departure or departure – without knowing where the journey is going.
“Departure is a moment. The moment when we leave something to arrive somewhere else, let go of something to embrace something else, look back on something to be able to look forward. Departure gives direction or leaves everything open.”
Text by Rebekka Csizmazia
A large-scale work of art will be created on site on the ground between the air cargo hall and Terminal A.
About Räume III
RÄUME 3 is the third exhibition series promoting the dialogue between architecture and art.
RÄUME is an exhibition series for places without function that seem to have become mere shells. Places that are no longer accessible, are about to be demolished or are waiting to be restructured. Spaces that are difficult to find or have become faded landmarks due to their monumental appearance.
RÄUME intervenes in this moment of functionlessness and opens a dialogue through an artistic guest performance with over 60 participating international artists.
For a limited period of time, the places are given an aesthetic meaning that suggests a new beginning. The artists who intervene in these places have a deep understanding of the uniqueness of the context, of the energy that once flowed through these spaces.
The criterion for selecting the artists involved is therefore above all their willingness to be part of a transformation and a group committed to dialogue.

About Alina Mann
RÄUME founder Alina Mann was born in Berlin (*1979) and grew up there. She has been shaped by long working stays in Los Angeles, Rio de Janeiro, Dubai and Bangkok. She is an architect with heart and soul and finds a complement in art, as client wishes, budget and strict urban planning specifications regularly deny her absolute freedom.
As in her architecture, clear, linear forms come to the fore. At the moment, Alina is working on new walk-in works, constantly searching for new perspectives and unexpected encounters.
