CSR.ART presents from 2 August 2024 (opening 01.08.) its last exhibition at the Friedrichstraße location: ‘DIALOG. Art as a bridge between cultures.’ The group exhibition brings together around 20 artistic positions from eleven different countries. The exhibition concept focuses on dialogue – in art-scientific terms: dialogical aesthetics. Dialogic aesthetics sees dialogue as the focus of artistic practice and reception. It views art as a medium that can build cultural bridges, promote social interaction and initiate political change. By emphasising interaction, cultural exchange and reciprocal, rather than hierarchical, relationships between artists and viewers, dialogue aesthetics helps to create a deeper understanding and stronger connection between different cultures and societies. Especially in times of global crisis, art should act as a medium to bridge cultural differences and emphasise shared human experiences. ‘DIALOG. Art as a bridge between cultures’ opens with a vernissage on Thursday, 1 August 2024 from 6 pm at CSR.ART. The exhibition is curated by the initiators of CSR.ART in co-curation with Dr Huang Mei.

The DIALOGUE. exhibition pursues several approaches: It aims to highlight the role of art in intercultural dialogue, show the diversity of artistic forms of expression and perspectives and encourage visitors to reflect on the importance of exchange and understanding in an increasingly polarised world. The artworks in this exhibition offer insights into the cultural, social and political realities of the artists’ respective countries of origin. At the same time, they may surprise by challenging preconceived notions and offering unexpected, enriching perspectives. The dialogue between these different positions is intended to create a space for reflection and exchange.

In view of the current global crises and conflicts, dialogue between cultures and nations is of crucial importance. The curators formulated five theses for the exhibition concept that highlight the role of art and the relevance of dialogue in this context:
Promoting understanding: Dialogue makes it possible to understand different perspectives and promote mutual understanding. In a world characterised by conflict and misunderstanding, it is essential to build bridges and recognise common ground in fundamental human experience.

Reducing prejudices: Cultural exchange and dialogue help to break down prejudices and stereotypes. Art offers a unique platform to communicate beyond language and politics and to share human experiences.
Peacebuilding: Through dialogue, ways can be found to resolve conflicts and achieve peace. Art has the potential to awaken empathy and connect people by communicating on a visual and emotional level without the need for languages.

Strengthening the community: Dialogue promotes cohesion and solidarity within and between societies. Works of art can strengthen communities and raise awareness of common challenges and goals.

Creativity and innovation: The exchange of ideas and perspectives through dialogue can produce creative and innovative solutions to global problems. Art inspires and motivates people to think in new ways and look at the world from different angles.

The exhibition ‘DIALOGUE. Art as a bridge between cultures’ aims to illustrate how art can act as a medium for dialogue. The works on display invite visitors to enter into an intercultural dialogue and experience the transformative power of art. The exhibition shows that art is not only a mirror of society, but also an active creator and mediator in the pursuit of understanding and peace.
