The upcoming group exhibition “After Images”, which will be on show at the JSF Berlin on 12 September 2024, proposes a recalibration of man’s relationship to contemporary visual culture.

The exhibition moves away from the image-based practices such as film and video for which the Julia Stoschek Foundation is best known. It expands the visual towards the haptic and multi-sensory, moving from the space of the screen to the embodied and experiential journey of the viewer. “After Images” is curated by Lisa Long, Artistic Director, with support from Line Ajan, Assistant Curator, and Josefin Granetoft, Assistant Curator.
Prevailing systems of knowledge have elevated vision above the other senses, even though vision is composed of an amalgam of sensory feedback from the entire body. To challenge this hierarchy of vision over the other senses, “After Images” brings together works that are categorised as time-based art but rely on materiality, texture, movement and immersive experiences that use sound, light, smell and touch to convey meaning.
