The exhibition “urbainable – stadthaltig” is an exhibition by members of the architectural section of the Academy of Arts. From 5 September 2020, it will show positions on the European city for the current century at the Akademie der Künste on Hanseatenweg in Tiergarten.

The exhibition deals with the role of the European city and its architecture in times of global warming, digitalisation, demographic change and the dissolution of traditional social networks. The word ‘urban’ in the title of the exhibition refers to her hypothesis that sustainability / sustainability and the city should not be seen as opposites, but that a more responsible approach to the city’s functional mechanisms is also the key to a more sustainable existence.
“urbainable – stadthaltig” is a group exhibition: members of the Architectural Section of the Academy of Arts introduce themselves through projects, visions and initiatives and present their positions for the 21st century. The exhibition thus provides an insight into European architecture and urban planning at the beginning of the twenties of the new century.
In addition to architectural projects that have been realized or are in the planning stage, the topics of the exhibition include digitalization in the design process, mobility, the reconstruction of the new and the preservation of the old, cultural techniques of density, dealing with nature, and technical innovations. The members come from the fields of architecture, landscape and urban planning as well as the history and theory of architecture.
The exhibition is initiated by a research project of the Leibniz University of Hanover in cooperation with the Berlin photographer Erik-Jan Ouwerkerk. Using photographs, drawings and texts, visitors to the exhibition are shown the potential that our cities have to offer for sustainable development. The exhibition publication is published by ArchiTangle.
The exhibition was planned and designed before the Corona crisis, and its implementation cannot exclude the experience of the pandemic. It is still unclear what will and will not be possible in terms of public and cultural life at the time of opening. And yet the Corona crisis is already showing the enormous adaptability and creative potential of our cities.
