The exhibition “The Breath of a House is the Sound of Voices Within” can be seen in the Akademie der Künste building on Hanseatenweg until Easter Monday, April 1, 2024. In the show, 22 international JUNGE AKADEMIE scholarship holders present new works that they created in Berlin and in the Villa Serpentara in Olevano Romano, Italy. The JUNGE AKADEMIE is the international residency program of the Academy of Arts.

The title “The Breath of a House is the Sound of Voices Within”, a quote from the American architect and artist John Hejduk (1929–2000), represents the transdisciplinary and cross-border artistic practice of the scholarship holders. Photographs, video works, spatial and sound installations, textile works, sculptures, drawings and paintings question aesthetic, social and territorial boundaries and convey alternative ways of seeing and listening. Working on a new phonetic alphabet, putting together thousands of drawings in a stop-motion film or collectively embroidering symbols and images create poetic snapshots of milieus and portray communities, their feelings and voices.
