Wilni – The Free. Benefit concert conducted by Oksana Lyniv and Sir Donald Runnicles in the Kaiser-Wilhelm-Gedächtniskirche | 06.03.2023

Editors’ Choice

In 2016, conductor Oksana Lyniv founded the Youth Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine in her home country and brought together the country’s best young musicians. The war has scattered the members, aged between 12 and 22, across many countries, but has not been able to interrupt the activity of the ensemble, which has quickly become internationally known.

For the benefit concert entitled “Wilni – Die Freien” (Wilni – The Free), members of the orchestra of the Deutsche Oper Berlin joined forces with musicians from the youth orchestra. Under the direction of Oksana Lyniv and Sir Donald Runnicles, the programme in the Gedächtniskirche includes works by Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Giles Farnaby, Gabriel Fauré, Giacomo Puccini and the world premiere of the commissioned composition “Nachtgebet” by Evgeni Orkin. It will be moderated by rbb presenter Petra Gute, with former Federal President Joachim Gauck as patron.
