Since 2011, Leonie Baumann has headed the weißensee kunsthochschule berlin, which has experienced a generational change in teaching during this time. It is now the only art academy in Germany to have achieved balanced gender parity in professorships.

The university management will be supplemented by the re-elected Prorectors Professor Christiane Sauer and Professor Dr. Jörg Petruschat as well as the Chancellor Hinnerk Gölnitz for a further two-year term of office.

With future-oriented teaching and research approaches, Leonie Baumann’s term in office has seen a multiplication of third-party funding in recent years. This has enabled numerous projects to be carried out in which work is being carried out with a wide variety of partners on issues relevant to the future: Development of new materials, sustainability, regional infrastructure.

The cooperation in the former Cluster of Excellence of Humboldt University “Bild.Wissen.Gestaltung”, from which the cluster “Matters of Activity. Image Space Material” was developed. The significance of artistic-design perspectives as elementary and fundamental components of scientific research processes is now being examined at eye level. The Kunsthochschule will be able to use three temporary cluster professorships for this process from winter semester 2019/20 onwards.

A cooperation with the Peter and Irene Ludwig Foundation recalls the common roots with the patron of the arts, collector and long-time trump chocolate manufacturer and his wife, as the Kunsthochschule now resides in the former administration building of the chocolate company. A guest professorship sponsored by the Foundation for three years will interpret the traditional techniques of printmaking in a contemporary way.

Analogue and digital techniques are thought synergistically in all areas of the university and developed further at the highest level for the future. In mid-2018, for example, the Kunsthochschule was selected as a partner of the Stifterverband and the CHE for a peer-to-peer process in order to concretize its own digitization strategy, which has already begun with the expansion of digital workshops for CAD, rapid prototyping and 3D ceramic printing.

During her forthcoming term in office, Leonie Baumann will work urgently for the urgently needed expansion of the campus area in order to secure and further develop the internationally recognised education at the weißensee kunsthochschule berlin.
